The Bob Ross painting kit showed Ayling & Conroy how to paint a mountain scene step-by-step, removing any need for them to pick a subject to paint, and reducing the range of choices that the pair had to make during the process of creating the artwork.
They found it immensely enjoyable, (something Bob Ross would have approved of) working on each canvas at the same time, frequently changing brushes, and changing the sides of the canvas that they were working on. They then begun work on the 36 views of Mount Fuji in the Bob Ross style (see Mr Mountain).
